You’ve been smiling all the time, you never mind and never meddle with other people’s business; you are just in the corner of the room reading and you think you are friends with everyone and they will also return their smiles on you.
But, in all honesty, no matter how much you try to be “pleasing” in your own definition of the word, NOT EVERYONE WILL LIKE YOU.
You will never please everybody and sometimes, the harder part is, not even the majority.
Even if you kiss ass, there will always be something negative that they can say towards you and sometimes, those are the things that they will always remember and the one that will stick around their heads.
Bottomline is: Why not just please yourself and let the right things follow you.
“When you say ‘Yes’ to others, make sure you don’t say ‘No’ to yourself.” – Paulo Coelho
Sometimes, we easily get swayed because of peer pressure because you are afraid to be alienated by those people you call “friends”.
That’s why, anchoring one’s own values is very important to maintain yourself’s identity.
Being accepted by people around you is necessary as well, to keep good networks and can promote good working environment however, self-acceptance is much important than other people’s opinion about you.
At the end of the day, it is your life that you are managing not theirs. As long as you always do your best and you are not hurting anybody, that is enough. So keep your ears close to negativism.
I always follow this rule as well. What other people say about you isn’t actually about you, it’s actually a reflection of who they are or how hard they judge themselves.
And when they say something negative about another, this will apply: How they treat other people when they are not around is also the way they will treat you when you’re not with them.
That’s why, to live happily in this world, you need to be strong and must keep your values intact.
However, when I’m faced with situations like that, this is what I always remember from my favorite poem, Desiderata
“For the world is full of treachery but, let this not blind you to what virtue there is.” – Max Ehrmann
You can never go wrong if you have accepted yourself; both your strengths and weaknesses.
No matter what, always believe in yourself.
